Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a Dh12 million ($3.3m) contract to supply, extend and commission main water transmission networks from Al Qudra road to Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, according to state news agency WAM.

The project will see the installation of 600mm-diameter Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipelines over a total length of 8.3km, designed to meet the future demand of water in the Solar Park project and in the surrounding areas, it was reported. It is scheduled to be operational in January 2016.

“DEWA seeks to enhance the efficiency and transmission capacity of water supply in the emirate to meet the growing demand for water services from all sectors including customers and developers,” said Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

“The AED 12 million development project also reinforces our emergency supply plan and supports the sustainable development of Dubai.”
