Moataz Al Khayyat, the CEO of Qatar-based UrbaCon Trading and Contracting, has called for the construction of more medical and healthcare facilities across the GCC, highlighting their importance to regional economies.

Speaking at the recent Arab Health expo held in Dubai, Al Khayyat said that the Gulf’s healthcare market is growing and that there was a need to build more medical facilities that are designed to focus on well-being and comfort.

“I always call for building more health facilities in the Gulf because this will help the economies in the Gulf countries by protecting the health sector as one of the main sources of the economic growth and strengthening the medical tourism,” Al Khayyat asserted.

Over the years UrbaCon has become a well-known name in Qatar’s construction industry, having worked on a number of high-profile projects such as the Mall of Qatar, Banana Island Resort and the Lekhwiya Stadium.

Amongst its healthcare related projects, it has the Syrian American Medical Centre in Doha, Qatar. This 3,800sqm facility was built with the aim of “introducing a modern health-care system to Qatar and the GCC region”, the contractor’s website said.
