The Qatari government has allotted five plots in different parts of Doha to build hospitals in partnership with the private sector, it was reported.

The new hospitals will be built on plots ranging from 10,000-14,000sqm in four areas: north of Qatar University, Ain Khaled, Abu Hamour and Al Furoush (in the north), The Peninsula Qatar reported. The upcoming healthcare facilities will be dedicated for women and child care, mental health and other specialties.

The move is a joint initiative by Qatar’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Supreme Council of Health to provide investment opportunities to private sector firms to build and operate hospitals. To garner feedback from companies on the project, the ministry has launched an online survey, available on its website.

The survey is looking to gather opinions on various aspects of the project including the facilities and specialties to be provided at the hospitals, approximate time required for designing and building the facilities; economic feasibility, ways of financing and marketing, and estimated cost.

The government is also looking at determining how the project can promote competition in the healthcare sector, it was reported.
