Dubai-based energy service provider Etihad Energy Service Company (Etihad ESCO) is partnering with Siemens Tech and Smart4Power for an Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) project at Dubai International Airport, which will result in a 23% reduction in the airport’s annual energy bill.
Under the partnership, Etihad ESCO, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Siemens Tech and Smart4Power will together implement energy efficiency measures at the airport’s Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and Concourse B in a seven-year long project.
The proposed energy efficiency measures include installation of photovoltaic solutions in the four facilities, with retrofits constructed over a period of 18 months and highlighted by a solar retrofit of 5MWp capacity for Terminal 2. The total savings envisaged in the project amount to approximately $57m over its seven-year period, said a statement from Etihad ESCO.
Siemens will be responsible for the project’s design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance, as well as the measurement, verification and guarantee of energy savings during the course of the partnership. The global engineering company also announced the partnership with Etihad ESCO at the recently-concluded World Future Energy Summit 2018 in Abu Dhabi.
Ali Al Jassim, CEO of Etihad ESCO, said: “The new partnership with Siemens and Smart4Power for the retrofitting programme at Dubai International Airport terminals further accelerates our journey towards achieving 30% energy demand reduction by 2030 in Dubai. Etihad ESCO is currently retrofitting over 30,000 buildings in the emirate to ensure energy efficiency and manage rising energy demand.”
Etihad ESCO signed the EPC contract with Dubai Airports in October last year at the 19th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX). The agreement was signed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, vice chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD and CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of Etihad and Jamal Al-Hai, deputy CEO of Dubai Airports.
