Hussain Nasser Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality, has issued an administrative decision that authorises hotels to build rooftop restaurants.

The move comes comes in accordance with Decision Number 66 of 2007, which concerns controls on some planning and structural modifications.

A statement released by state news agency WAM explained that the resolution stipulates that hotels in Dubai are authorised to request permission for the construction of restaurants on rooftops, according to specific planning requirements.

These include that construction should not exceed 50% of the roof floor area, that the maximum building area should not exceed 1,000sqm, and that the lateral slope of the building on the rooftop should not be less than 1.5 metres on all sides of the building.
