Mapei Construction Chemicals (MCC) has announced that it has supplied eco-sustainable products to more than 55 pavilions, 16 zones and 60 areas across EXPO 2020 Dubai. In total, the firm said it has supplied over 8,000 tonnes of materials to the event.

According to a statement, the firm’s factory in Dubai has produced more than 200 eco-friendly building products from its 20 product lines for the event, including adhesives for ceramic and marble tiles, resilient flooring, sealants, waterproofing, concrete repairs, epoxy resin floor coatings, and cementitious mortars.

“Adhesives, sealants, waterproofing and concrete repair are some of the most commonly overlooked materials in terms of their sustainability credentials and play a vital role in any construction or interior design project. Our products offer the highest standard of quality and durability, coupled with sustainable best practice solutions, creating a safe environment for our employees to work as well as having an eco-friendly impact on the community,” says Stefano Iannacone, director for Middle East and Africa, Mapei Group.

The firm notes that its 40,000sqm manufacturing plant is located 3km from the EXPO 2020 site, enabling it to incorporate a circularity approach to supplying the mega project, while minimising the carbon footprint as a result of the short transportation times and distances and, therefore, increased fuel efficiency. The statement noted this supports the sustainable build of EXPO 2020.

With sustainability being the key theme for EXPO 2020, this aligns with Mapei’s green vision to use modern technologies that create energy-efficient solutions and minimise wastage, accompanied by constant innovation, the firm said.

Mapei Construction Chemicals’ products contribute to green building standards and certification systems, such as LEED, in areas like recycled content, low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, reduced VOC emissions, improved indoor air quality, and reduced impact on the environment, all of which comply with the strict sustainability guidelines of EXPO 2020, the statement explained.

The firm said its participation at EXPO 2020 Dubai represents a new step in the collaboration journey with the World’s Fair. On a group level, Mapei has garnered a wealth of experience; showcasing its innovative product portfolio in previous World Expos including Expo Shanghai 2010 and Expo Milano 2015, the statement concluded.
