The foundation stone for the 6,175m long Jeddah Formula One Circuit has been laid, Saudi officials have announced. The track is expected to host the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix which runs from December 3 to 5.

Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal, chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, and other members of the federation witnessed the foundation stone laying ceremony.

According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency, construction of the circuit will be implemented according to best local and international standards. The report stated that local stones will be used to build the surface of the circuit.

Later construction stages will take into consideration healthy environmental aspects that aim to promote sustainability messages while holding the race, such as the use of non-mineral products and waste product to establish the road, the report added.
