Kamel El-Wazir, the Egyptian Minister of Transport, announced that the third phase of the Cairo Metro Line III has reached a completion rate of 49%. The total cost of the third phase, which has a length of 17.7 km is estimated at $2.6 billion, according to the minister.

The third phase of the metro line comprises of 15 stations, and is being built by a joint venture of Dubai- and Egypt-listed Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors Company, respectively. Once complete, the Cairo Metro Line III will connect Greater Cairo to the 6th of October City, the New Administrative Capital, and the cities of El Shorouk, El Obour, and El Mostaqbal.

The minister stated that the first part of the phase three, which will begin in December 2021, will run from Attaba station to Kitkat station, while the second part, which will open in June 2022, will extend from Kitkat station to Rod El-Farag station.

Meanwhile, the third part, running from Kitkat station to Cairo University station, will be inaugurated in April 2023, he stated.
