Doosan Heavy wins $708 million desal plant contract in KSA

South Korean engineering firm Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Company has announced that it has been awarded a $708 million contract to build a seawater desalination plant at Yanbu in Saudi Arabia.

The contract has been awarded by a consortium of French energy company Engie and Saudi companies Mowah and Nesma.

According to a statement from the company, the Yanbu-4 facility will be located 260 kms north of Jeddah, in the region of Alrayyis. On completion, it will boast a capacity of 450,000 tonne fresh water per day, Doosan stated.

It added that the Yanbu-4 facility is expected to be completed by 2023. Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Company has won similar desalination projects in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman over the last four years, the company stated.
