Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) has announced that the first 3D-printed fully functional villa in the Middle East – named Sharjah 24 – has been constructed in its premises.

It stated that Sharjah 24, which was built following an Arabic design, was completed in two weeks.

Commenting on the achievement, Hussain Al Mahmoudi, the CEO of SRTI Park, said: “We aspire by launching this technology to develop it in Sharjah and build more homes, which will support the emirate’s economy and its competitiveness, in addition to activating the role of true partnership between the academic, economic and private sectors.”

Al Mahmoudi further stated that the project involved a large research programme between different universities. He explained that the American University of Sharjah, in cooperation with the private sector and some international universities in Finland and research institutions in the Netherlands and other countries, collaborated for the project.

Netherlands-based CyBe Construction was the technology partner involved in the construction. It provided the tools to support the construction, as well as training and conducted research at the university.

According to a statement from last year, CyBe Construction stated that by introducing 3D Printing, SRTI Park is creating a proactive and supportive environment for experiments and research in the field of future building technologies and fourth generation technologies.

“We aspire, through this research project, to strengthen the emirate’s position as a centre for research and innovation in the world,” Al Mahmoudi concluded.
