Global infrastructure firm AECOM has announced that it has signed an agreement with The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) to provide airside construction supervision and quality control services for a new international airport at the Red Sea Project in Saudi Arabia.

Designed by Foster + Partners, the Red Sea Project airport will be capable of serving one million domestic and international passengers per year when it opens in 2022.

According to a statement form AECOM, work is set to begin from next month, following the completion of essential groundwork. Conforming with TRSDC’s sustainability goals, the entire airport infrastructure will be powered by renewable energy, the first of its kind in the country, the company added.

Commenting on the win, Lara Poloni, president at AECOM, said: “Aecom is excited to partner with TRSDC to bring this iconic project to life. This partnership is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of our business and teams across the region.”

“The airport will provide an unforgettable aviation experience for travellers through revolutionary design and cutting-edge technologies,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Ian Laski, the CEO and President of Aecom Arabia, added: “This key award confirms The Red Sea Development Company’s trust in the depth of our resources both within the Kingdom and across the region and our ability to deliver specialized aviation-related services for this strategic project.”

“This win represents AEECOM’s continued growth within Saudi Arabia, its commitment to supporting the country’s Vision 2030 and the mega projects for Public Investment Fund subsidiaries,” he concluded.
