A $2.4 million detailed engineering project contract has been awarded to Penspen from Galfar Engineering & Contracting Emirates, for a major oil field project on the south-east border of Abu Dhabi.

Penspen said that the EPC award will see it undertake well tie-in work at the main Haliba oil field and peripheral prospects. It will also support with the design and detailed engineering of different types of wells, including straight oil producers, ESP/artificial lift and water injection wells.

According to a statement, the contract covers 75 wells over four years, with the first tranche of work covering 11 well.

“This is the first project we have secured with Al Dhafra Petroleum, and we are hopeful that our relationship will continue to strengthen for further work. Our MEA team has a stellar reputation of delivering work to the highest standard, and we are pleased that Penspen can play its part in providing EPC services to the Haliba oil field,” said Neale Carter, executive VP (Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific) at Penspen.

The Haliba oil field, also known as the Area 1 onshore oil field, was brought on stream in July 2019. It is owned and operated by Al Dhafra Petroleum, a JV between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, the Korea National Oil Corporation and GS Energy. The oil field is being developed in two phases and is expected to reach up to 60,000 bpd production capacity by 2023.
