CyBe Construction has been chosen as the technology partner for the construction of 3D printed houses in the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park). The firm says it plans to build the first of the 3D printed houses inside the park by Q3 of this year.

The houses will be printed with state-of-the-art technology, while the design will stay true to the UAE’s roots, a statement from CyBe said. The project is said to be the result of a collaboration of government, private, and academia.

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) will provide support for the project in terms of research and talent. The university is said to be working on the development of the technology and is training students through applied scientific research by students, faculty members and several researchers from specialised companies. A group of students from the Faculty of Engineering at AUS will also get hands-on training on the technique, according to the statement.

“We are delighted to launch this ambitious project, which translates the vision of the park and its ambitious strategy to introduce all kinds of reliable future technologies to serve and facilitate people. In order to become a regional development center for 3D printing construction, we aim to create a suitable research and development environment for the private, academic and public sector to benefit,” said Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park.

With the introduction of 3D printing, SRTI Park said it is creating a proactive and supportive environment for experiments and research in the field of future building technologies and fourth generation technologies.

Al Mahmoudi added, “This type of construction has many advantages such as easy access to complex designs and simple modification with access to parts of different sizes, which results in shorter duration of implementation and cost.”
