thyssenkrupp has won a major order for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) from the Egyptian chemical and fertiliser manufacturer, El Nasr Company for Intermediate Chemicals (NCIC). thyssenkrupp will be working in a consortium with Egyptian company, Petrojet for the project.
According to a statement from thyssenkrupp, the project will start operation in 2022 and produce up to 440,000 tons of ammonia, 380,000 tons of urea, and 300,000 tons of calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN), annually. The fertiliser complex will be built in Ain El Sokhna, 100 km southeast of Cairo close to the existing NCIC’s phosphatic and compound complex.

“To date we have planned and built 16 of the 17 existing nitrogen fertiliser plants in the country and are delighted that another state-of-the-art plant will now be added,” added Ralf Richmann, CEO of the Fertiliser & Syngas Technologies’ business unit of thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions.
thyssenkrupp stated that the new fertiliser plant is part of NCIC’s plans to expand its current product portfolio to include high-quality nitrogen fertiliser for local and international markets. Nitrogen is a key nutrient for plant growth and of critical importance for industrial agriculture, it stated.
The order value for the project is in the mid-three-digit million euro range, thyssenkrupp said in the statement.
