Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) has announced that work on the $27bn Al Zour Crude Oil Complex is progressing at pace. The oil complex includes three major components; a refinery which is billed as one of the largest in the world, liquified natural gas (LNG) processing facilities and a petrochemical complex.

According to a statement from KIPIC, a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), construction work on the refinery and the LNG processing facilities stands at 80% and 65% complete respectively.

Once operational, the $16bn refinery will boast a production capacity of 615,000 barrels of crude per day. Construction work on the refinery, the fourth in the country, is expected to be complete by the end of 2019.

KIPIC also said the LNG facility will be able to produce three billion thermal units of gas, once it is complete.

SNC-Lavalin was appointed as Al-Zour oil refinery’s testing and commissioning consultant, whilst Van Oord and Saud Abdulaziz Alrashed & Brothers Company were named as dredging contractors.
