Ajman Municipality and Planning Department (MPD) and the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du), has announced a tie-up that aims to turn the emirate’s Rumaila District of old Ajman city into a smart and sustainable residential area.

The two bodies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work jointly for the implementation of the Smart Rumaila District Project, in line with the urban planning policies and the city’s comprehensive masterplan that have been adopted by Ajman’s government, a WAM report said.

As per the MoU, du will design, build and operate the smart systems in selected buildings on Omar bin Al Khattab Road, using the latest methods for building management, renewable energy, energy saving and the highest standards of safety and well-being for both residents and visitors.

This will also include sustainable and smart systems for telecommunications, street lighting, waste management and car parking.

The two bodies also agreed to coordinate with their strategic partners and stakeholders, with the ultimate objective of preparing one integrated development plan, with clear-cut and time-bound programmes and goals for the project.

Located in the middle of the old Ajman city, overlooking Ajman Corinche, the Rumaila neighbourhood is surrounded by the Al Rifa’ah, Al Nakhil, Al Rashidiya and Al Mirgab districts.

Abdulrahman Mohamed Al Nuaimi, MPD director-general, and Jihad Tayara, VP business development and partnerships – New Business and Innovation at du, signed the agreement with a number of officials, form both sides, in presence, the report added.
