Authorities in Abu Dhabi have approved infrastructure projects worth AED241 million ($65m), according to UAE state news agency WAM.

The approvals were made by the Executive Committee of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, chaired by Saeed Eid Al Ghafli.

Works include a project to increase the capacity of the electricity grid in Al Ain and its suburbs in order to keep up with the rise in demand. The project will cost AED55 million and include supply and installation of an additional transformer, six integrated primary stations and 13 km of power and optical fiber cables.

The committee also approved a project to transfer electricity loads and networks from the current primary transfer plants to new primary transfer plants, modify the safeguard systems of the primary transfer stations and link them to the main control centre at a cost of over AED45 million. The project aims at securing the safety of power supply to grid subscribers and electrical equipment in an effort to develop all the elements of an integral power system.

The committee also approved a maintenance and restoration project for internal roads and bridges in Abu Dhabi – mainland (south) at a cost of AED76 million.

Other works include soil treatment and soil quality improvement; the second package of the integral land car park project on Abu Dhabi island; and the maintenance, restoration and asset management projects for main roads in Region 3, western sector, at a cost exceeding AED21 million.

The executive committee also went ahead with awarding Stage IV of the project for constructing internal roads and infrastructure in Al Falah area. This will include upgrading the current two-lane road into a three-lane road in each direction, turning the current U-turns into intersections with traffic lights and establishing a new inlet and outlet to the area at a cost of AED42 million.
