Phase one of a new ‘smart’ industrial city in Asfan, on the outskirts of northern Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, is complete and work has commenced on phase two, the Saudi Gazette has reported.

The new smart city will cover a total area of five million square metres, the newspaper said.

“Its first phase is now ready for experimental operation. We have started working on the industrial city’s second phase,” the newspaper has quoted Abdullah Al-Sahli, chairman of Alsabiqun Company, developer of the new smart city as saying.

The executive was addressing a group of 300 industrialists and businessmen, members of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and Jeddah Municipal Council, who recently visited the new smart city, the Saudi Gazette reported.

More than 600 engineers and technicians have participated in project’s implementation according to Al-Sahli. Phase one covers 1.2 million sq. metres.

Abdul Majeed Al-Batati, chairman of the Jeddah Municipal Council lauded the project work, adding that it has been carried out adhering to high standards.
