Ashghal, Qatar’s public works authority, says it has completed the first two phases of the Rawdat Rashed Road Development Project, a $107 million project that will link two major transport arteries.

The Rawdat Rashed Road will run between Salwa Road and Dukhan Highway for a distance of 20.5km. It consists of three lanes in each direction. Work on the project started in the first quarter of 2015 and was started as part of the Local Roads and Drainage Programme.

Both phases were completed under the supervision of AECOM Middle East, the regional arm of the international consultancy, a statement from Ashghal said.

Phase one of the project was implemented by Alcat Contracting Company at a cost of $50 million. This phase covers the road from Salwa Road for a distance of about 8.5km towards the north, where it intersects with the main roundabout that connects the southern side of Rawdat Rashed Village, the statement continued.

The second phase of the project was done by Bin Omran Trading and Contracting Company. It covers a distance of 12.5km, bypassing Rawdat Rashed Village. There are eight intersections or roundabouts along the $57 million project.

The Rawdat Rashed Road consists of five phases and the third phase is expected to start soon. That will run 13km northwards to the intersection between Lebsayyer Road and Dukhan Highway.

The fourth and fifth phases will follow once it is completed. These will improve the connection between the Rawdat Rashed Road and existing bridges on Salwa and Dukhan Highways, the statement added.

In a related development, Ashghal opened the Izghawa Interchange and a key bridge linking Al Huwaila road, to the country’s North Road. Developed as part of the North Road Corridor Enhance Project, the interchange will be a key connection in the densely populated area, creating alternative access routes from Lusail City to Izghawa and into Al Shamal Road, which is the main route to commercial projects.
