The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Causeway (Doha Spur) is 34% complete, a senior Kuwaiti official has said.

The 12.4km project includes a sea bridge that starts at Shuwaikh Port and free zone, runs through Kuwait Bay towards the west, passes the Um Al-Namel islands to Doha, and links with the Doha Expressway.

Ahmad Al-Hassan, the Ministry of Public Works’ Assistant Undersecretary for Road Engineering Sector, told Kuwait Times that work on the project is progressing well, with all concerned parties working in coordination.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $560.6 million, with construction scheduled to be completed in 1,462 days.

Al-Hassan said that the Ministry of Public Works is keen to implement the most modern standards in road engineering on the project, as the Doha Spur is considered to be the largest project of its type in the world.

Al-Hassan said the sea bridge segment of the project will be 7km, with two intersections. It has the same specifications as the main bridge, he added.
