Kuwait is planning to build an additional passenger terminal amid delays in the broader expansion of its international airport, Reuters reported.

The new terminal is set to accommodate five million passengers annually, increasing total capacity to 10 million, and will bridge the gap until the larger project is complete, according to a government official.

Yousef al-Fouzan, director-general of Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, told Reuters the project has been tendered with November 3 set as the deadline to receive bids.

Though the cost of the project remains unclear, Fouzan said construction would take 15 months, with the terminal operational by 2017.

Under the broader expansion plan, the total capacity of Kuwait International Airport would be increased to 25 million passengers a year.
