Parsons has won a contract to design a new bridge spanning Dubai Creek and to evaluate the Shindagha Tunnel underneath the waterway, the US-headquartered firm said.

The construction consultancy said the contract includes the concept study, preliminary and final design, tender documentation and construction supervision of the new bridge connecting Bur Dubai with Deira.

The Shindagha Corridor improvement project will also include an evaluation of the existing tunnel underneath the Dubai Creek, which local media said could be replaced by the new bridge.

The project also includes nearly 10km of a new 12-lane expressway, multiple major interchanges, and various local roadway improvements throughout the historic district of Dubai.

The existing Shindagha Tunnel is the one of several crossings over the Creek, and the closest to the point at which the waterway opens into the Arabian Gulf.

“Parsons looks forward to working on the Shindagha Corridor. It is Dubai’s largest new road and bridge project, and the historical richness of the area only adds to its significance for our customer. The project is located in the heart of Dubai, a location that stands as a vibrant testimonial of Dubai’s development into a global commercial hub,” said Gary Adams, Parsons Middle East Africa (MEA) President.

Parsons – which is headquartered in California – has been working in the Middle East and Africa for more than 60 years and has offices in the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
