The UAE-based contractor ALEC, a subsidiary of the Al Jaber Group, has been appointed to build a school at the under-construction Akoya by Damac development in Dubai.

The new Jebel Ali School, which Emirates REIT will spend $56.7 million to build, will have a gross floor area of about 20,000sqm, and serve pupils starting from foundation year to the 13th grade, under the British curriculum.

The campus will have separate buildings for a foundation, primary and secondary school, and will also include a sports hall, auditorium, external swimming pool and outdoor sports pitches.

ALEC was awarded a design-and-build contract for the project, the firm said in a statement. It will carry out the concrete, wet trades and MEP works directly, and appoint specialist subcontractors for façade, finishes, and external works packages.

Broadway Malyan is the lead consultant on the project, while UK’s Shepherd Gilmour and Hong Kong’s CSA (M&E) Gulf will provide structural and MEP engineering services respectively.
