Chinese firm scoops $67m roads contract for Dubai theme parks

China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) Middle East has bagged a $67 million (AED244 million) contract to build access roads to the upcoming Dubai Parks and Resorts project.

The duration of the contract, awarded by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is 14 months, CSCEC said in a statement.

The Chinese firm will be the main contractor on the project, which consists mainly of constructing two direction ramps to provide proper access and egress to Dubai Parks and Resorts from Sheikh Zayed Road (E11). It will also link the upcoming theme-park destination to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311).

The scope of the contract also includes construction of roadway signage and pavement marking, street lighting, landscaping, irrigation ducts, storm drainage, diversion and protection of services systems.

“The successful award of this project is a strong proof of the company’s good reputation, and it marks the company’s solid foundation in the infrastructure market in the UAE,” CSCEC said in a statement.

The $2.9 billion Dubai Parks and Resorts project will consist of three theme parks: Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai, and Bollywood Parks.

Set to open in October next year, the development will also include the Polynesian-themed Lapita Hotel and Riverland Dubai, a retail, entertainment and dining district linking the theme parks.
