Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE) has been awarded a contract worth AED334 million ($90.9 million) for a mixed-use hotel and residential development to be constructed on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah.

Under the agreement, DSE will carry out the supply, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of detailed MEP works for the hotel.

The project on the Palm Jumeirah manmade island consists of three separate buildings of G+7 floors built over a common basement, and will include a 360-room five-star hotel and two residential buildings. The scope of the contract extends to the pools and associated landscaping, and work is scheduled for completion by 2016.

Khaldoun Tabari, CEO and Vice-Chairman of parent company Drake & Scull International, which is listed on the Dubai Financial Market, said the firm has achieved nearly AED5.9 billion ($1.6 billion) in project awards last year across the Middle East and North Africa, Europe and Asia.

“The engineering business continues to be one of the main drivers of DSI’s growth and we look forward to announcing more project wins in our key markets and delivering improved results in [the financial year] 2015,” Tabari said.

“The MEP contract for the mixed use development is an important win for DSE,” noted Ahmad Al Naser, Managing Director of DSE.

“Our tremendous experience gained by delivering more than 4000 hotel rooms and suites in the region in the last 4 decades will prove crucial for the successful delivery of this project. The hotel project award follows our previous announcement of the AED395 million ($107.5 million) Jewel of the Creek project win in Dubai recently and we are pleased to remain the engineering partner of choice for hospitality projects in the MENA region.”
