Dubai’s utilities authority has issued the requests for proposal (RFP) for the third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) issued the RFPs for the 800MW facility on December 28, according to state news agency WAM.
The move is in line with a strategy to boost Dubai’s use of renewable energy. The government aims to derive 75% of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by 2050 and 25% by 2030.
The 13MW first phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park became operational in 2013. The 200MW second phase is set to be operational by 2017, and the 800MW third phase expected to go online by 2020.
DEWA released a request for the expression of interest for the third phase on 8 September 2015, for which it received 95 responses. The RFPs were “released to qualified bidders on 28th December”, WAM reported. Responses are expected to be received towards the end of the second quarter of 2016.
