The Dubai-based businessman Khalaf Al Habtoor has revealed plans for a megaproject in Egypt that would include hotels, apartments and luxury villas.

The chairman of the Al Habtoor Group told the Al Arabiya News Channel that he has submitted a proposal to the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to build the multi-use development in Cairo.

“The large-scale development, on more than 800,000 square meters of land, is based on the Al Habtoor’s Group’s highly-anticipated Al Habtoor City project in Dubai, which incorporates three luxury hotels alongside three high-rise residential towers on the banks of the Dubai Water Canal,” the Al Habtoor Group said in a statement.

Plans for the Cairo project include: three five-star hotels, three luxury residential towers, six mid-rise residential blocks, 204 villas, a school, mall, polo club and golf course.

The proposed shopping centre covers 290,000sqm (3,055,000sqft) of rental retail space.

“It would be a vibrant community in the heart of the city and new landmark in Cairo. It would provide much-needed jobs for the Egyptian people and would be a great boost to the city’s economy,” Khalaf Al Habtoor said of the development.

“There is nothing like this anywhere in the world. It is all encompassing. Residents and guests would have everything they need on their doorstep… We have been studying the idea for some time. Egypt is ready for an investment of this scale.”
