A SR150 million ($40m) residential camp for labourers is under construction at Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) megaproject, it was reported.

The 104,000sqm camp will be able to house over 4,000 labourers working at different development projects in KAEC, according to the Saudi Gazette newspaper.

The Saudi Arabia-based Namariq Arabian Services, which specialises in the design and operation of workforce camps, will implement the first phase, which is expected to complete next year.

The new camp “will provide an attractive lifestyle and residential environment that meets all the needs of the labourers,” said Fahd Al-Rasheed, Group CEO and managing director of KAEC, quoted in the Saudi Gazette.

“We are very pleased to be awarded the prestigious contract and chosen to be part of KAEC’s development. We will implement the highest international standards for urban architecture that KAEC follows in all its different projects,” said Hussein Fayez, managing director of Namariq.

Located on the Red Sea, the $100 billion KAEC consists of four components: the Coastal Communities, King Abdullah Port, the Industrial Valley, and Hijaz Downtown, a residential, retail and business district built around the Al Haramain high-speed rail station.
