The first procurement contracts for the construction of Poland’s first nuclear plant have been awarded by Bechtel. The firm is working alongside Westinghouse Electric Company to oversee the design and construction of the energy facility.

According to the firm, it will deliver three AP1000 reactors for Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania. The plant is being developed at a cost of US $20bn.

“Bechtel has been at the forefront of delivering nuclear power for 70 years, and one of the most important lessons we have learned is that partnerships at the local level are critical to a project’s success,” said Jared DeMeritt, Project Manager at Bechtel.

The three procurement contracts that the firm has issued will all go to Polish suppliers including: Energoproject – Katowice, a design and engineering firm that will provide services for codes and standards, environmental permitting strategy, and supporting permitting documentation; Prochem, which will be provided opportunities for supporting documentation, and Summa Linguae Technologies – a company that builds technology-enabled solutions to help companies with multi-lingual data challenges.
