Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technology (MTCIT) has invited bids from construction firms and operators for the development and operation of the Port of Khasab and Port of Shinas.

According to a report by the Oman Observer, the ministry called upon interested parties on a concessionary agreement to develop and operate the two ports. The terms of the concession period will be mutually agreed upon based on an investment basis, the report noted.

Both ports are involved in domestic and international trade, equipped with basic infrastructure and offices for concerned government agencies, the report said.

The move is part of the ministry’s efforts to secure a global reputation for the transport and logistics sectors in the Sultanate, and for the sectors to be the second source of national income and within the top ten in logistics performance at the international level by 2040.
