The UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure has said that there are currently $2.72 billion worth of infrastructure projects underway along the country’s east coast, which are part of the UAE’s 2018-2023 five-year plan.
Speaking during a tour of a number of projects being carried out on the East Coast, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei said that the projects include the ministry’s investment programme and the project’s undertaken by the Follow Up Committee of the Initiatives of the UAE President.
He was accompanied by Hassan Mohammed Al Mansouri, the Ministry’s Under-Secretary for Infrastructure Affairs, and other senior officials.
The projects included the new headquarters of the Fujairah Police being set up at an investment of $26.3 million, along with the upgrading of the existing Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Road, at a total cost of $68 million.
Al Mazrouei explained that the latter project entails the construction of new intersections, as well as three car tunnels and three pedestrian underpasses.
He also inspected progress on the project to upgrade Meliha Road, off Sheikh Khalifa Highway, the E99 Road, to link the two roads and to illuminate them using energy efficient LED lighting.
Furthermore, he highlighted the work that the ministry is currently overseeing on 104 dams and levees, with a total capacity of 130 million cubic metres. Last year, over 40 million cubic metres of rainwater had been stored at the ministry’s dams, he pointed out.
