Coronavirus: KAPP extends date for RFPs for South Jahra Labour City Project due to COVID-19 crisis

Kuwait Authority For Partnership Projects (KAPP) has announced that the last date for submitting the request for proposals (RFPs) for the South Jahra Labour City Project has been extended to November 15, 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

According to a statement from the Authority, the project is being developed in collaboration with the Kuwait Municipality, in line with the government’s directive to promote the private public partnership programme in Kuwait.

It added that  the scope of work for the project involves the design, finance, build, operate, maintain and transfer to the state according to the provisions of law No 116 of 2014, its executive regulations and other laws related to KAPP and other relevant laws.

The proposed labour city will come up over a 1.02 million sqm area in South Al Jahra region of Kuwait. It will feature several integrated components including residential areas, commercial and neighbourhood and community services along with other municipal and utilities services.

The terms of the contract with Kuwait Municipality is expected to be for 40 years, including a three-year construction period.

The KAPP project aims to improve the living conditions of low-income expatriates by providing adequate and affordable housing for 20,000 expatriate labourers, while rehabilitating Kuwaiti neighbourhoods in and around current worker residents, it added.
