Global cement major Cemex has implemented over 50 new safety and hygiene measures at its operations around the world to minimise the risk of the spread of Covid-19.

Cemex said the new protocols are being followed throughout its ready-mix concrete, cement and aggregates operations worldwide and its operations are in strict adherence to official regulations in all geographies.

Cemex CEO Fernando A. González said: “Due to this pandemic, we have complemented our existing protocols by developing and implementing special protocols and guidelines to protect our employees, communities, and customers from Covid-19 risk. Additionally, we are constantly updating and improving our protocols to be in line with official health regulations.”

According to Cemex its core businesses of cement, ready-mix concrete, and aggregates are low employee density operations by nature, but despite the lower probability of contagion, the 50 new measures were put in place to minimise any risk of transmission.

The protocols are based on national and international guidelines established by experts in the field, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), and in strict adherence to local health regulations. Among the measures are the company’s Personal Hygiene Protocol, Physical Distancing Protocol, Screening at Workplace Protocol, Cemex Truck Drivers Protocol, Workplace Cleaning Protocol, and Commuting To and From Work Protocol, among many others.

Cemex said it is also using digital tools wherever possible to reduce physical contact between employees, customers and suppliers.
