The necessary studies to establish Terminal Four at the Cairo International Airport have been carried out, the Cairo Airport Company has said, with the announcement coming as it looks to reduce density within the current three terminals of the airport.

Ahmed Fawzy, chairman of the company, said that this step comes as the Cairo Airport nears 75% of its current capacity, and is as per the instructions of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, according to a report by Egypt Independent, the sister English-language publication of Al-Masry Al-Youm daily, a leading independent paper in the country.

Fawzy added that the company has started implementing certain projects to upgrade the Cairo International Airport’s efficiency and to improve the quality of services provided to passengers, keeping pace with increases in the airport’s targeted capacity.

Amongst these projects is the development of Terminal One and the modernisation of an integrated system for baggage handling, which will achieve the highest levels of security, the report said.

As part of its plan to increase airport efficacy, the Cairo Airport Company has said that aims to raise the annual total capacity of passengers at the airport to 30 million passengers on a yearly basis.
