Education consultancy ‘Class Of Your Own’ (COYO) is launching its ‘Design Engineer Construct!’ (DEC) program in Dubai at the Fairgreen International school this week.

According to COYO, DEC is a STEAM focused curriculum that was first unveiled by the firm in 2009. It has since attracted significant support from players in the industry and academia including Mott MacDonald, Buro Happold, Arup, Balfour Beatty, Morgan Sindall and Laing O’Rourke.

Today, young UK DEC students are securing careers in architecture, engineering and construction, the statement said. COYO is now appealing to organisations in Dubai to offer their support.

The launch on 11 September will see parents of Fairgreen students gather at the school from 5pm to learn more about the prospects the industry can offer through DEC.

“I’m so proud to be bringing DEC to Dubai. Of all the places in all the world, and as the host of what will be an extraordinary World Expo, Dubai can offer its children and young people the most exciting opportunities to get behind the scenes of the world’s most iconic buildings and impressive infrastructure,” said Alison Watson MBE, CEO of Class of Your Own.

COYO’s focus on excellence in teaching and learning, coupled with an unparalleled commitment to bring together schools, universities and industry, has resulted in the development of incredible talent for the digital age, the statement said.

Watson added, “It’s imperative that Dubai pupils see the vast range of STEAM careers the industry can offer and DEC can help them progress to a higher level of learning and ultimately, employment. DEC responds to key government priorities, addresses skills gaps and gives teachers unparalleled access to industry professionals. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Following a half hour briefing on the day, Watson and ICE award-winning DEC teacher Daniel McDonagh will take attendees through the programme, highlighting areas that need support.

Watson concluded, “Other schools in Dubai are looking to offer the programme, so please do give a couple of hours to get involved in the world’s most exciting, innovative AEC curriculum, and grow your own talent!”
