The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has announced that it will replace all electrical overhead transmission lines and wires to replace it with ground power cables, at a cost of over $8 million.

According to SEWA, it will replace all electrical transmission lines and wires of low pressure 420 KVA that feeds the areas of the Authority’s Central Region, to ground power cables according to the best specifications. The utilities provider has also stopped 1000 electrical columns for high pressure lines 33 KVA, in line with SEWA’s strategy to enhance the efficiency of power grids.

Speaking about the recent developments, Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of SEWA, said that the development of the energy and water projects in the Central Region comes in line with the directives of H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Al Leem also commented that the project aims to achieve security and safety, and that the Authority will continue to implement maintenance and development projects in the region.

Meanwhile, Khalifa Mohammed Al Tunaiji, Director of Central Region Department, talked about SEWA’s  comprehensive plan to replace the aerial cables in the Central Region with ground cables, contributing to the stability of networks and ensuring to provide the best services in all areas.
