The Kingdom of Bahrain has invited tender bids for a new 100MW solar power plant. The move is in line with Bahrain’s energy plan, which calls for 5% of the country’s energy to come from renewables by 2025.

The announcement was made during the recent Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).

“We have already received tenders for the large-scale project and Abu Dhabi Future Energy has emerged as one of the potential bidders,” said Dr Abdulhussain Mirza, Electricity and Water Affairs Minister of Bahrain.

Speaking at the sustainability focused event in the UAE capital, the minister underlined the importance of diversifying sources of energy. He noted that this is critical to ensuring sustainable development and providing safe energy sources for future generations.

“Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week plays a key role in accelerating reliance on the deployment of renewable energy solutions around the world,” Mirza added.

According to WAM, the minister participated in the opening of the ninth session of the Assembly of Irena and spoke of the importance Bahrain placed on the deployment of renewable energy solutions, namely, solar and wind energy.
