DP World has partnered with SirajPower for the latter to supply the first batch of 15 MW solar roof plants at the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and National Industries Park.
The partnership involves a 22-year lease agreement with DP World to save its energy consumption, the company reported. Over the last few months, DP World has set up UAE’s first energy neutral warehouse facilities and will install 88,000 PV modules as part of DP World’s Solar Power Programme.
Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO and MD at DP World, UAE Region, said: “Creating a sustainable business model through the implementation of green technologies is a core focus for DP World, and one of our key initiatives is our ground-breaking Solar Power Programme that will generate enough energy to power 4,600 homes upon completion.”
Commenting about DP World’s Solar Power Programme, he stated: “It is part of DP World’s larger goal to create a better future for our people and community. We recycle over 9,700 tonnes of waste each year, and have managed to reduce CO2 emissions intensity by 24% since 2008.”
“We are simultaneously developing the Jebel Ali Free Zone Zero Waste Project, with the ultimate goal to develop the world’s first Zero Carbon Emission supply chain across our portfolio,” he stated.

The company has also mentioned that to execute the project, it will open a branch in Jafza that will help to support the construction, installation and operations of the company.
Moreover, with 80,000 PV panels (corresponding to 150 containers) to be installed, a significant logistics traffic is expected. The construction phase will also involve a team effort resulting in 500,000 to 1,000,000 man-hours over a period of 18 months. Also, more than 20 people for the operations and maintenance team will be employed by the company for the next 22 years by collaborating with local companies, the official report stated.
