Dubai-based firm Viva City has announced that it will be opening the world’s largest commercial sports mall, Sport Society by 2020, in Dubai.

The three-storey facility with a total area equivalent to 12 football fields and is in line with the annual Dubai Fitness Challenge, announced under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

Edgar Bove, head of design at Viva City, said: “The project will present big surprises both in design and activities, and will deliver a unique experience combining shopping, entertainment and sports.”

Bove explained that the Sport Society brings a new concept in creating active and exciting spaces to boost the morale of visitors.

“It will have three floors and the ground floor will be the most significant and will have a large space for organising various sporting events,” he said.

The other two levels will feature retail outlets by prominent international brands as well as exclusive spaces for different types of sports activities. Additionally, the mall will also have a large chain of restaurants and cafes which will provide organic food and beverages that are consistent with the ‘nature and identity of the mall’ Bove mentioned.

The mall is also said to have a screen which will have one of the largest LED display panels on which visitors can watch international sports performances and tournaments indoor and outdoor,” Bove suggested.

The Sport Society will be located in Dubai close to Deira City Centre and will have accessibility through a wide road network and have dedicated parking spots.
