The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded contracts worth $89.2m for the manufacture and supply of 11Kilovolt (Kv) power cables.

The cables will cover a length of 1,548km and will help the utility company achieve its goals for the expansion of its distribution network in the emirate. The cables will also help the utility company keep up with the growth in demand for electricity from various consumer sectors, said a statement from DEWA.

“Through these huge projects being carried out, we aim to support and raise the capacity and efficiency of electricity transmission and distribution networks by providing an energy-efficient infrastructure and service facilities that provide electricity and water services in accordance with the highest standards of availability, reliability, and efficiency,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO and managing director of DEWA.

DEWA also said that the manufacture and supply of the cables will be completed by September next year.

“This is part of DEWA’s continuous efforts to meet the criteria for the electricity distribution network expansion, meet the needs of ambitious urban, economic, and social projects, and consolidate Dubai’s leading regional position as a model in the efficiency of its power grid infrastructure,” Al Tayer added.
