Bahraini authorities have said that work will soon begin on a $4.5 million multiple sclerosis centre in the Muharraq region of the kingdom, with the 100-bed facility being developed as part of the Muharraq Medical Complex, which is set to be completed by mid-2020.

The complex also includes an 85-bed maternity hospital, and an elderly care centre, a report by BNA said.

An agreement for the project was signed by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, and the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) chairman, Farooq Youssef Almoayyed, for the supervision of the construction of the medical project.

As per the agreement, the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning will build the medical facility, on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

“Work on the sclerosis centre, which will cover 800 sq m, is expected to be completed by mid-2020,” said Al Khalaf, who added that the project follows the directives of His Royal Highness, Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

It was recently revealed that Saudi Arabian contracting firm Saleh Abdullah Al-Mahana had won the contract to build Muharraq Long-Stay Care Centre.
