The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) is planning to build desalination plants, as well as transmission and distribution systems to improve water quality in several areas in the city.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Dr. Engineer Rashid Al Leem, chairman of SEWA and a French delegation from Sweez Company. The French delegation was headed by Pierre Yavis Policon, CEO of Sweez in the Middle East, Africa and India.

Sweez specialises in the development of desalination units, water networks and water quality improvement, and will work with SEWA on the development of the new plants.

SEWA also announced that 83 electronic sensors have been installed to measure water pressure and flow in its networks, and that intelligent voice devices are being leveraged to identify water leaks in transmission and distribution lines. The authority says these are all part of its strategic objectives.

During the meeting, Al Leem said that SEWA would continue to develop its facilities in the city in the coming months using the latest global technologies.
