Work on Kuwait’s Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway Project is 80% complete, and the project is on track to open at the end of 2018 according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The $2.4bn project will link Al-Sabiya City with Madinat Al-Hareer (Silk City), and will reduce travel time from one hour to 15 minutes.
The cable-stayed bridge was commissioned by Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works, following instructions from Kuwait’s emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The bridge is also said to be a critical part of Kuwait’s 2035 vision, and in line with the emir’s goal of transforming the country into a financial and commercial centre. The project was initiated in 2014 and, once completed, it will become one of the longest cross-sea bridges in the world.
The project’s design and supervision team includes Tylin International and SSH Design, while contracting work is being carried out by Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Combined Group Contracting Co.
According to the project’s website, the causeway is one of the largest and most prestigious transport infrastructure endeavors in Kuwait, and the wider GCC region.
