Saudi Arabia has announced a mega “entertainment city” project that will span 334 square kilometres and include a Six Flags theme park and safari.

The project was announced by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also chairman of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which will help fund the project.

The project in Al Qidiya, southwest of Riyadh, is set to be Saudi Arabia’s “largest quality cultural, sports and entertainment city.”

The Deputy Crown Prince said that this city is set to become a prominent cultural landmark and an important centre for meeting the future generation’s recreational, cultural and social needs in the Kingdom.

PIF will be “the main investor in the project, along with a number of local and international investors, which supports the Kingdom’s position as an important international center in attracting foreign investments,” a statement carried by the state Saudi Press Agency said.

The foundation stone is scheduled to be laid in the beginning of 2018 and the opening of its first phase in 2022.

“The project is expected to include the entertainment city of Six Flags as one of the main attractions of the project,” the statement added.
