Construction of a new international airport terminal in Muscat, expected to open in early 2017, is on course for completion, reports the Times of Oman.
The new terminal will have the capacity to handle 12 million passengers per annum and will be able to accommodate aircraft as large as the Airbus A380.
The total gross area of the terminal building is 580,000 sqm and will have an overall airport land area of 21 sq km.
The airport also has further expansion plans planned in three subsequent phases that will boost its capacity to 24, 36 and then 48 million passengers per annum, according to the Oman Airports website.
The airport will comprise of a 97-metre-tall air traffic control tower, 86 check-in counters, 29 passenger boarding bridges and 30 aircraft remote stands.
It will also have a processing capacity of 5,500 bags per hour, two parallel runaways, a car parking capacity of 8,000 vehicles and a 90-room airside hotel.
The principal consultant for design and supervision is Hill International, the project managers are ADPI, and the civil works is being carried out by Consolidated Contractors Company – a TAV joint venture.
